Today we had 2 group discussions, one for our Poppy Project and one for our Blacksmith Project. When showing my tutor my designs, ideas and thoughts towards the project, I thought he would've been concerned with the lack of communication but surprisingly he said that it may work well.
My blacksmith comes across as someone who is very mysterious, he was described as a 'dark horse' by my group, for not only the work he creates, but also the works he likes from other artists.
I explained to my group that the lack of communication was an issue, but I improvised with creating the design anyway, taking his project and re-creating them in my own style of illustration. My tutor thought that this idea would work and my partner would be happy with this, as long as I stick to his likes within the art world.

After looking back on my mind map and taking some ideas from that, I found out he was German and that was something I could incorporate within my work. I wanted to use the colours of the German flag to make the design extremely relatable to my blacksmith. I also kept the same order of all the colours, to make the design obvious as to where I had taken those colours from, so my audience and my blacksmith's audience would be able to tell clearly where the idea has come from.
After talking to my blacksmith he made it very clear that he didn't want colour on his zine, I did think about use spot colour or a limited colour palette but in the end I decided to invert my designs so they'd be white on black, rather than black on white. This gave it a negative feel, which I feel is what my blacksmith wanted, because of him liking a 'darker style' within his work.
If I was to do this design again I would have probably gone with a limited colour platte rather than just using black and white.
